Job search continued

Well……….I’ve been looking and the only jobs posted are 12 hour shifts at the local hospital. I have a hard time doing 12 hour shifts anymore and hospitals won’t use 8 hour shifts because they are more expensive. So the hospitals are saying they can’t find nurses to work there that “the well is dry” but they will not accomodate the older nurses(by this I mean over 40 which is the median age by the way) by having shorter shifts or even reasonable work weeks. I only work 3 day weeks but at the last hospital I worked at they put nearly all my days together making me work 5 out of 6 days. I’m sorry but I just cannot work a schedule like that. I will happily show up rested and vigorous if I just work 2,occasionally 3 then off 2.They can’t be bothered and therefore can’t find enough help. Maybe the hospital administration should try to “bother” accomodating the nurses a little. Maybe the CEO,CNO etc could come down on their $250,000 yearly salary so their hospital could be staffed.   Ya think?

Aren’t nursing administrations bizarre? They say they can’t get nurses. They say they need flexible staffing, but they do everything they can to keep nurses away or quit. At my hospital if you are on a flex shift of 10 or 12 hour shifts you have to work .75, you can’t drop below that.

Wow Marsha..This is terrible and I agree that those CEO’s making so much money when it’s obvious that you nurses have the tougher job need to take a closer look at how the shifts are handled. Especially for nurses over 40! Give me a petition to sign for these creeps!! :)
