Moving pt 2

Wow,still resting from moving part 2. The movers were supposed to show up early on the 21st,they call to say they’ll be there at 1pm then they limp in around 1:30pm with nearly a full truck and three totally exhausted movers.They took one look at my folks 2/2 w/ full garage and looked like they were going to cry,we nearly cried too when we realized we couldn’t move my folks that day.So it was quite a let down to set them up and make sure they had everything they needed for 2 more days.

     So the movers say we’ll set up a time and show up being and early,fresh and rested with an empty truck,well………one outta three ain’t bad(it is actually).They show up  4 1/2 hours late with no explanation other than it took longer……..or something(they’d already been there 2 days earlier!).They look at me with dread and ask repeatedly”Is this going?”I say “yes,everything is”(patiently at first),then “YES!! It’s all going!!!!” I felt bad for them but that’s why I hired three of them so they could work together and it wouldn’t be so hard. Sheesh!

Anyway,my folks are here and established now,I put safety equipment in their bathroom;a raised seat,a shower chair,mats or rugs over tile floor,etc. anything I could think of. My mom now has a walk in closet that is bigger than the bathroom we had in our original house and the master suite is probably bigger than their entire first house.

  My nephew and his son went fishing in the lake behind the house,it’s huge and apparently has a lot of catfish which is good for catch and release training for his son.My mom put it aptly when she said”it’s nice to have a full house”.

My last interview

A week or so ago I had an interview with a really impressive place,it was out in the country,the grounds were nice but………it was for adolescent psych corrections.(YIKES!). I’m flexible and all and I like to try new things but that was so far out of the scope of my practice that trying to work there would have been pure unadulterated stress on top of my already incredibly stressful life. I didn’t even follow up with that one.

     My previous interview to the above was with that outpt dialysis group. During the interview the manager told me I’d have to work every other day 14 1/2 hour days. Interesting. It seems to be getting worse and worse.

Moving pt I

Well,on the 14th I moved the contents of the house I was renting to the new place. It’s a much bigger place with 2 stories and all. The movers faces’ fell upon seeing the second story and they fought the good fight getting nearly everything up the stairs without damage to either themselves or the furniture. They were really hard,fast workers and I quickly forgave then when one of my more flimsy bookcases fell apart in a sort of comical way when he hit the top of it to show it was sound. The top fell down,hit the middle shelf which also fell then the whole thing lurched decidedly to the right.He was clearly horrified and started talking in an exhausted way that a few nails would help and that he would be willing to give it a go when my nephew and I both told them it would be fine. He was so clealy exhausted and the bookcase so marginal anyway that it wasn’t worth it.I’m glad to be here but it’s kinda lonely until I get my folks moves in tomorrow. I’m looking forward to this. They were in a super expensive ALF that did nothing to help them since they were in the independent living area. I’ve been taking care of them anyway from afar and we’re all stressed out about this. This will be a much better situation.

Hello world!

I continue in my quest to find a suitable nursing job. It seems at 49 I am getting too old to keep up with the kids although 49 is the median age of nurses in the US. In my last job they were just interested in how fast I could run(not very) not with how much I know or how I could help in any other way. I think of leaving bedside nursing and it makes me sad because I have worked very hard and long to get the varied critical care experience that I have but I can’t seem to find a good fit. I know that my kind of experience is needed but I do cost more and administration does NOT want to pay anymore than they absolutely have to. This leaves the units with the increasingly sicker patients with mostly younger,inexperienced staff.It’s not fair to them,the patients or to me. I need a job and there are many nurses like me forced to sit on the sidelines as hospitals decrease their budgets by eliminating essential personnel. The remaining nurses have to do more with less and the hospitals wonder why there are more mistakes and problems with infection control? I’m not slighting anyone who’s working in a hospital right now,God bless you but they are going to realize that they are asking for the impossible. I know many ER’s are at their breaking point.
